What are the requirements for a Belgian passport photo?
The key photo requirements for your identity card, passport or driving licence — and the mistakes that can lead to rejection.

Passport photos are rejected more often than you might think. It is usually not about how well the photo resembles you, but about technical details: a shadow on the background, a reflection in your glasses or an expression that is not neutral enough.
The basic rules
The photo must be recent, sharp and in colour, with a plain, light background free from shadows. You must look straight into the lens with a neutral expression and your mouth closed. Both ears and the full outline of your face must be visible.
Head coverings are not allowed, except for medical or religious reasons — and even then, your entire face must remain uncovered from chin to hairline.
Glasses, make-up and clothing
Glasses are allowed, but there must be no reflections or tinted lenses. The frames must not obscure your eyes. Not sure? Bring your glasses along and we will take a version with and without them.
Choose plain clothing that contrasts clearly with the light background. White blends into the background and can create a floating-head effect.
Passport photos for babies
The rules are slightly more relaxed for babies: their eyes must be open and their face unobstructed, but a perfectly neutral expression is not expected. Visit when your baby is well rested and allow a little extra time.
At the studio in Ghent
At the studio, we check your photo against the current requirements straight away. You receive eight prints plus the digital file, usually within ten minutes. Working by appointment also means you will not have to wait.
